A group of concerned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Ondo State has appealed to the party’s national leadership to review the outcome of the party’s primary appeal process in the state.
This is even as it warned that the current outcome could undermine party unity and affect its electoral prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the group, one of its major concerns is the emergence of both the House of Representatives and Senatorial candidates from Arogbo, a community in Ese Odo Local Government Area.
It argued that the arrangement has created a perception of imbalance because Ese Odo comprises several communities, including Apoi, while Ilaje Local Government Area is a separate political constituency with its own expectations.
The appeal was contained in a petition dated July 2, 2026, addressed to President Bola Tinubu through the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
The petition, signed by the Director General of the Asiwaju Media Team, Prince Emorioloye Owolemi, said the request was driven by the need to preserve the unity of the party, strengthen members’ confidence and improve the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections.
The petition further alleged that similar concerns had arisen in other local government areas of Ondo State, claiming that changes made during the party’s primary appeal process disrupted previously accepted zoning arrangements, rotational understanding and equitable distribution that had helped maintain harmony within the APC.
The group said that if the intention was to accommodate particular stakeholders in the interest of party unity, it could have been achieved without upsetting the existing political balance or creating unnecessary grievances among party members.
It warned that failure to review the affected list could weaken the party’s grassroots structures, create avoidable disaffection among members and adversely affect the APC’s performance in the National Assembly elections in Ondo State.
The petition noted that since there will be no governorship election in Ondo State in 2027, the immediate electoral contests will be the presidential and National Assembly elections, making internal cohesion essential to the party’s overall electoral success.
The group therefore appealed to the APC national leadership to urgently review the outcome of the primary appeal process and take what it described as lawful and appropriate steps to restore equity, fairness and confidence among party members before the process becomes irreversible.
It maintained that the appeal was intended to preserve peace within the party, rebuild trust among stakeholders and ensure that all members continued to have a sense of belonging in the APC. The petition also expressed confidence that the party leadership would give the request urgent consideration in the interest of unity, equity and the party’s electoral success.
